Day 26: Singing in the Rain & Raindrops on Roses!

I have still not been able to get my photos to load on this site.  The computers keep saying that my photos are not compatible with the computer.

Day 26:  Today I walked seventeen miles in the cold pouring rain.  While walking, I met a couple who now live in Australia. The man, named Jean, is originally from Brazil, and the woman, named Jackie, is originally from England.  While walking along together, we created a game to see how many songs about rain we could come up with.  (Believe it or not, they came up with the game, not me!)  We came up with Singing in the Rain, Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head, Raindrops on Roses, The Rain in Spain Falls Mainly on the Plain and Here Comes the Rain Again.  I challenge you my readers to come up with other rain songs.  If you can think of a different one, please post it here, okay!

Speaking of singing and most specifically, Raindrops on Roses, I had dinner last night with a young man named Matt from Austria.  Matt has just graduated with his Masters in Communication. He is one of those really handsome guys who could probably become a news reporter.  Anyway, the really fun thing about Matt is that he used to be a tour guide in Austria for The Sound of Music tour!  He knew all these really cool facts about the Von Trapp family.  He shared that Christopher Plummer couldn´t stand acting in that movie and even called it the "Sound of Mucous"! (This is true!)  For those of you who know me well, you know that I have seen this movie about thirty-five times.  So, meeting a person not only from Austria, but who is also a tour guide for The Sound of Music tour was pretty thrilling for me.

Not only that, Jackie said that she attended a Sound of Music sing-along recently in Australia. She said that many people were dressed up as nuns, or the children or whatever. One person came as a "brown paper package tied up with strings"!  (This will only be funny to those of you who know the words to Raindrops on Roses!)

Am staying the night in a small cozy hostel with only a few people. We are sitting by the fire, enjoying tea, listening to music I actually recognize, and trying to dry our shoes and socks.  We will enjoy a communal meal tonight, so this is a nice conclusion to the day. Tomorrow, I start moving up hill again. I hope the rain stops, but with the look of things outside just now, it does not look at all promising.

Finally, blister report...yesterday was a good day for blisters but today they have gotten worse. (Walking with wet socks does not help.)  Jean, the man from Australia, helped put that red chemical we used when we were children called Methiolate on them.  My feet now look like a finger painting from kindergarten!  One man asked if he thought I would make it to Santiago with my blisters.  I told him, "Imana n´ibishaka," which in Kinyarwanda, means, "God willing."  Day by day...daily bread...sunflowers looking to the sun...hope.
